Bye Bye PEI

It has been a long day of preparing and packing and finishing some work around the house.  The alarm rang at 5:30 am and we were off and running.  I had a few things to do before going to work, but Francois had a larger to-do list  and thanks to the help of his mother and his father he managed to finish it all.  Grandpapa helped with the weeding and planting of the garden, so we can reap the reward of the harvest when we return home.  Grammy helped with cleaning the house to ensure it will be in good shape when we return.  In the afternoon Francois also managed to visit Grammy Kay - who is not his grandmother, but she calls him one of my "other" grandchildren - she is the grandmother of one of Francois' friends.  Francois enjoyed his visit with Grammy Kay, who is 97 years old.  She talked with Francois about the journey she made across Canada with her late husband Earle many years ago.

Our neighbors, Tom & Rosaleen and her two grandchildren - Jane and Lana joined Grammy in waving us off as we left our driveway.  The kids were very excited to be off and kept themselves busy with activity books and games we brought with us.   We ate supper on the go and made our first stop in Salisbury for a bathroom break.  Around that time David began his question of when were we going to be there?  I didn't keep track of how many times he asked this question because at that point I was beginning to get really tired too and questioned why we decided to travel so far this first night.

We stopped in Nackawic, which has the World's Largest Axe.   The community is very nice and the area where the axe is located has a lovely view of the water and a nice trail throughout a park.   Of course we took some pictures of the Largest Axe - Natalie has a great suggestion of trying to take a picture as if she was holding the axe in her hand.  There was a park for the kids to run around and burn some energy.  Near 8:00pm we climbed back into the van and headed to our final destination - Edmundston, NB and the Days Comfort Inn.   Francois was great in scanning the area ahead of us while we drove and we saw three moose (one was a baby) and four deer.  Thank goodness there were fences near the highway and the animals were on the other side of the fence!!

The kids are now tucked into bed for the night.  This hotel room is great - it has two double beds and one single bed with large patio doors where we backed up the van and unloaded our luggage without lugging it through the hotel .    We hope to have a good night's sleep as our next leg of this journey will take us to Ottawa.  Good night

Bonne soir
