Robbed at Breakfast

Francois and I had an early start to our morning because we knew it would take a little longer to tear down the tent and bed supplies and we wanted to give ourselves plenty of time.  We had breakfast together at our picnic table - cereal with milk - and left the cereal boxes out while we woke up the kids.  We were in the tent packing our supplies when we heard a noise of scuffling outside - my heart was pounding as I sent Francois out to investigate - a raccoon stole one box of our cereal!  Of course it was mini - wheats, Andrea's favorite.  The raccoon sat in the bushes and ate out of the plastic bag.  Francois threw rocks at it, eventually forcing it to climb a tree to eat the remainder of our cereal.  Needless to say this set us back a little bit with tearing down the tent.  We needed to keep one eye on the raccoon, one eye on the kids and try to pack everything into the van.  Oh yes, the black flies were back in full force too!

We drove into North Bay and went to mass at 9:00am at St Vincent De Paul Parish.  It was a french mass and was a little difficult to know what we were suppose to do or say when we didn't have a missal to follow along with.  I thought of my parents and how they talked about the Latin masses and not understanding what was being said.  We knew what was going on, but we just didn't know the responses.  The church was beautiful inside - it had amazing paintings on the ceilings.  One elderly lady commented on how well the children behaved and welcomed us to her community.

After church we headed to Sudbury and the Science North - an amazing facility.  We got to see lots of neat things - such as the butterfly gallery, the 3D Imax movie "Born to be Wild", a Planetarium movie on the Earth, Moon and Sun as well as the chance to try lots of science experiments.  A highlight for the kids were using the rotary dial phones to call one another!

We are heading to our next destination - another campground.  I don't think the kids are too excited with the prospect - but it is better to travel a little bit tonight than to have a long driving day tomorrow.

Happy Father's Day to Melvin and Real - two wonderful fathers!  Thanks for all the support over the years - we are blessed to have you as our fathers.  Happy Father's Day to Francois too - our present to him was for the kids to get along for the entire day!

  2. I wonder if that racoon was a relative of the racoon on Brennan Ave??? Don't let that keep you from enjoying your camping experiences to come: consider every night a new adventure! Thanks for the call: it was great to hear the excitement in your voices and know what a wonderful time you are all having! Take care and enjoy the ride!! Lots of Love from the Frasers (XO)4 and the Critters too!
