Happy Canada Day

Tanya and Rodney
Not only is today Canada's birthday but it is also Tanya's as well.  This morning was the first day in a long while where we were able to get out for a run.  We've been doing lots of walking along the way, especially when we are visiting museums and historical sites but it has been almost two weeks since we have gone for a run.  Tanya and I went for a 30 minute jog along the beautiful trail system here in Sherwood Park.  Our bodies were letting us know that we missed a few weeks but it certainly felt good to get out for a run.

At the Parade
When we got back we fixed a nice breakfast and then made plans to head to the Canada Day Parade.  We went with Allison, Michael and Marissa and the kids really enjoyed the parade.  There was lots of neat floats with many people dressed up in costumes such as superheroes, pirates and medieval times.   There was also some firetrucks that sprayed all the kids.

Later in the afternoon we went back to the Festival grounds at Broadmoor Park where they had a pile of activities for the kids.  The place was packed and the kids were able to play a number of carnival games for free.  They also got to go for a canoe ride in one of the large Voyageur Canoes.

We were back to Rodney and Joyce's for supper and they had invited their friends Glenna and Sheldon.  We had a lovely barbecue with ribs and salad and then we finished it off with some birthday cake and ice cream.  That topped a wonderful birthday for Tanya that included a number of phone calls, emails and Facebook messages from friends and family all across the country.  Marissa wanted to let the Allain clan know that she was the first person to wish Tanya a happy birthday which is an Allain tradition.

The birthday girl with the kids
The night was finished off with a wonderful set of fireworks.  The kids struggled to stay awake but it was well worth it in that it might have been the best set of fireworks we've ever witnessed in person.  We know we'll have some tired children tomorrow but we knew that when we decided to attend the fireworks.

At the fireworks
We're very much enjoying spending our time with the Sherwood Park Allain clan.  That's it for tonight.

  1. Happy Birthday, Tanya! Isn't it awesome how there are fireworks in every Canadian city for your birthday every year? haha. Looks like you guys are having a great time.
