Hello Idaho!

We had a lazy morning start to our day.  The campground we stayed in was very quiet too I think most of the campers were sleeping in like us - movement didn't occur until after 8:00am.

Landscape of Idaho at 120km/hr
We left shortly after 10:00 am and made our way to Pocatello, Idaho.  It was interesting to see the change in the landscape as we moved from Utah to Idaho.  As we entered into the state of Idaho you could see the mountains were covered in lush green and the fields were vibrant with life, some had grass and some had crops growing.  We could see some of the fields were showing potato blossoms reminding us of our fair Prince Edward Island.

We stopped at the Visitor Information Centre in Pocatello and met a lovely couple from Pennsylvania who had just visited Yellowstone National Park, which is our next big planned destination.  They talked about the different places they visited while they were at the park and it sounds so beautiful.  We are really looking forward to the next part of our journey.

We had lunch at the nearby park.    We played baseball and also watched as many different people played Frisbee Golf on the course nearby.  It seems to be a popular sport in Idaho as there were lots of different groups going through and we noticed different courses along our route.

After lunch, we made our way to Idaho Falls and stopped at the local library.  It was a huge library, with the entire first floor allocated for the children's section.  Francois spent several hours trying to find a spot for us to stay for the next two days while we visit Yellowstone National Park.  He called many hotels and motels in communities about one hour away from the park, but there were no vacancies.  He finally found a spot in Cody, Wyoming.  It sounds like an interesting town with rodeos every night of the week.

We decided to stay in Idaho Falls for the night and although the weather was great for camping we booked a hotel for the night because we want to be on the go early in the morning.

We took the kids out to Applebee's for supper, Francois deserved a night off from cooking after spending most of the afternoon trying to find our accommodations for the next several days.  The kids were commenting about the restaurant and we realized how we rarely go to a sit down restaurant with them.   Andrea questioned why we needed to order our food off of the menu and how come Daddy didn't pay for the meal before we got our food.  Natalie said she was never at a restaurant that served a menu before - I guess she doesn't count Pizza Delight as a restaurant.

Checking out the falls
After supper we stopped to take a stroll near the waterfalls located in the town.  The length of the waterfalls were amazing and the strength of the water as it rolled over the falls were spectacular.  The noise of the waterfall was so loud, I can only imagine how Niagra Falls will sound when we stop to visit it.

The girls take a seat
As we strolled through the park Andrea noticed the "art" benches.  They are called Art you can sit on there were several Canada Geese and one horse, which had bench seating in it's body allowing you to sit on the artwork.  The kids really liked the horse bench and each wanted a picture of themselves alone with the horse.

We made our way to our hotel for the evening.  This hotel offers soup, chili, fresh baked garlic bread and  freshly made cookies as a nighttime buffet, included in the price of the room.  After the pool we used the cookies as an incentive for the kids to shower quickly so we could have a nighttime snack in the lounge.  Andrea was a little confused because she thought we were having our breakfast before going to bed - she does consider cookies an important part of her nutritional diet.

We are hoping to have an early start to our day as it is a three hour drive to Yellowstone - the hotel serves breakfast at 6:00am and we want to be there shortly after the doors open.  Let's see how willing the kids are to co-operate.

Tomorrow we hope to see Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Take Care

Tanya
